Oi Oi! Yes I’m back after a hiatus which has seen me abuse my body back up to 10stone 5.5lbs… I guess I should get on the scales in my bikini to prove it but it’s just so damn cold I don’t want to *stamps her feet* … maybe tomorrow
So I woke up this morning and hauled my fat arse round the streets of Shoreham for 20 minutes – nice and early so it was still pitch black and no-one could stop and stare and laugh and I felt well chuffed with myself!
To celebrate I decided to start my new 30 day challenge which basically involves me having to create or make a raw food recipe every day for 30 days, so if you have a favourite you’d like to see me having a crack at, please leave it in the comments on the blog.
In this video I’ve made a delicious raw green smoothie which I may make again for my lunch, it was THAT good.
I’m going to take each day as it comes and my motto is going to be….”Just for today, I..” fiill in the blank as you please. Basically this is an exercise taken from Reiki teachings (I have actually achieved Reiki Master/Teacher but tragically, not taught yet.. and been incredibly slack on using it to help others for far too long). The Reiki philosophy is:
“Just for today, I will not be angry.”
“Just for today, I will not worry.”
“Just for today, I will do my work honestly.”
“Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.”
“Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.”
I like this as it focuses me more on the here and now, which is what I can take action on. So, this morning I also decided:
Just for today I will exercise for 30 minutes or more, drink 2 litres of water, eat consciously, make a video, meditate, smile. What will you do, just for today?
Just for today I will sit back and watch someone else just “Doing It” WELCOME BACK and GO YOU!!!!!!
Sarah…so glad to see you back! I’ve actually been meaning to invite you to join a group of us on a site called Raw Food Rehab…the person who started it (Penni Shelton) was writing a raw food cleanse book over the summer and put out an internet call for ‘guniea pigs’ to try her cleanses and basically just increase their raw food intake as research for her book. Our results really were amazing and more importantly, we’ve bonded together with people from all over the globe. She’s now opened up a new site and I think that we’re now up to about 450 members! There’s absolutely no charge nor commitment to join. She has the site set up really creatively and there’s TONS of info and support. I’m hoping that you’ll check it out as we seem to be like-minded on this (mostly!)raw food/(mostly!) healthy journey.
The website is rawfoodrehab.ning.com
I hope that you’ll check it out!
Hiya Dawn! Thanks for the comment and the info about the group, I’ll definitely go and check it out. What results did you have as a ‘guinea pig’ then?
Sorry…me again. I commented ‘before’ I watched your video so, I just wanted to tell you not to throw away your leftover veggie pulp! You can make some great crackers or bread out of it. I made bread the other day by soaking some ground flax seeds (flax meal) in water and then mixed the pulp into it (obviously, take out any big chunks of pulp or skins or such) and I added some spices and salt and then stirred in some sesame seeds and dehydrated it until it was mostly dry but still soft (as I wanted it bread-like). It was really good and satisfying with some raw hummus spread on it (and some not-raw hummus too, when I ran out of the raw!) It helps with those bread cravings and you get loads of fiber!
Ahhhh I’d heard stuff about using the pulp but not unearthed any recipes yet… am struggling with the pathetic attempts at trying to make stuff in my dehydrator at the moment and will probably write about it. How long did your ‘bread’ take to dehydrate and what temperature did you set it at? I read in the book that came with it to set it at it’s highest for the first hour or two then turn it down but am fumbling in the dark a bit really.

Hopefully this link will take you to my ‘before and after’ pic…(Before was taken 2/09 and after taken a few weeks ago). Not sure if it will work, my 13-yr-old helped me to link it (depressing!). If it doesn’t work, we’ll try something else, just let me know!
Also, as far as the bread goes, I unfortunately didn’t write down exactly what I did…(typical of me!) but I didn’t even bother putting the temp up high first, it was probably around 115 the whole time, maybe around 12 hours beforeI flipped it off of the teflex (I just waited until it felt pretty dry on the top) and then I kept it in until it was pretty dry but pliable still. Next time I make it (soon, hopefully in the next couple of days!), I’ll write everything down and let you know!
As I said, if the picture link doesn’t work, let me know and I’ll have Amanda try something else. I only know how to send it to an email!!
OMG! WOW!!!! You look amazing Dawn. Not just the weight loss but the whole glow about you.. what an inspiration!
Thank you for sharing your photos with me and I will go off now (full of guilt at just eating a cheese and salad sandwich *sigh*) to buy some stuff for some raw food recipes I’ve been looking at this morning. I’ve seen another hummus one using almonds but I presume I’d have to soak off the skins? Gawd how boring THAT would be to do. I need to start having some successes that’s for sure *lol*
Thanks Sarah! Believe me…I’m not 100% raw, I’m just trying to do the best I can until I get my weight down to where it should be. Bet that glass of wine I had tonight won’t help much!
I really just started attempting to use the dehydrator. Have you ever heard of Raw Dog Rory? He does a lot of raw recipes on YouTube. Anyway, he recently came out with an ebook and I just bought it yesterday ($14). He has some really great, easy recipes in there. I actually have *3* of his recipes in the dehydrator right now. Pizza crackers, Cheesy crackers and Ranch style tortilla chips. (You’d never know that I’m a carb addict when eating cooked, would you?!)
I have a recipe for hummus using zucchini which is really easy to make…I’ll give you the recipe if you’d like. It’s a bit thinner than regular hummus but it’s pretty tasty for dipping vegetables or Raw Crackers in!
