Well a month (ok a bit more than that) of personal abuse feeding my body all manner of crap and coiffing vast amounts of alcohol have certainly taken their toll resulting in a stupendous jelly belly, lumpy bumpy skin and lacklustre eyes… not to mention sluggish digestion but I won’t go into THAT just yet.

So.. having crammed as many peanut butter sandwiches into my gob as I could muster, yesterday, I woke up with renewed vigor and good intentions – even RUNNING.

30 RawRRR Recipes – 02 – Celery Shoe Horn

RawRRR Food Recipe - Celery Shoe HornOk, well no video today.  I did say photo OR video eh – feedback on what you’d prefer is always welcome though.

I did have a go at making tomato crackers from the Kate Wood book but gawd, what a fricking disaster – BOTH times I tried it.  They just turned into thin pancakes in my dehydrator, so thin I couldn’t peel it off the sodding teflon sheet and had to just wash it all down the sink.  Aaaargh!  Oh well, if anyone has made that recipe work, let me know what the frick i did wrong ‘cos I can’t figure it out and will not be trying it again.

I’ve also realised that I need to maybe allocate a ‘cooking’ (read dehydrating) day, once a week.  It makes more social and economic sense to fill my dehydrator trays up at the same time before I bung it on and have to leave it running for hours.  This means I’m going to have to start being super organised and PLAN things.. as it seems a lot of recipes invariably incorporate others (which is driving me nuts) and involve things having to be soaked or sprouted or marinated or SOMETHING that will take hours unless I’ve sodding well prepared it already. UGH!

So today, I freed the chick peas I’d soaked over night and sprouted in my jar off eBay for the last 3 days or so – they were beginning to fight for space, and made some raw hummus using another Kate Wood recipe.  It involved 250g sprouted chickpeas, tahini, tamari, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, garlic cloves ummm water – I think that’s all.  Anyway I blended that all up and added some more lemon juice and a bit more oil and water to try and help it and… YUCK!  I thought it tasted pretty horrid.  I’ve stuck it in my fridge anyway in the hope I may find it more palatable tomorrow.

Ummm… I thought.. NOW what can I do for today’s raw meal.  All I’ve done today is snack on fruit, drink water, eaten half of Chloe’s sandwich (naughty I know and it made me feel bloated and more hungry as penance) and had disasters in the kitchen.

So I cooked the kids sausage and mash and gravy (torture and I HAD to taste the mash with a teeny bit of gravy…) and surveyed the car crash which was my kitchen and thought… “I’m not hungry.. bum”  and went and mooched around watching a crap diet programme on tv, staring at dimpled asses.

Then I got hungry. YAY I thought.. what can I whip up that is quick and easy and may photograph ok as it is now 10pm’ish and there is no way I’m going to make a video now.  And voila!  one of my fave raw snacks which I’ve nicknamed the Celery Shoe Horn, cos it’s celery and looks like a shoe horn.. c’monnn it’s late and my imagination is not working so great.

What’s in it Sarah?!  I hear you scream.  Well my lovely, let me tell you!  I cut a perfectly ripe (hass) avocado in half, which was a JOY… I hate cutting avocados and then finding out they are still a bit hard or even worse, covered in brown bits on the inside, yuck!  I was so pleased with THIS perfect green loveliness in fact, that I couldn’t resist scooping some of the flesh out immediately and scoffing it.  I then spooned the rest out into a bowl, added some Malvern sea salt, Tabasco and a squeeze of lemon and mashed it all up.   I was going to add some chopped tomato too but had used it all up on those stupid non-crackers grrrr.

Anyway, once it was all mashed up with a fork, I haphazardly stuffed it in two sticks of celery and topped with a sprinkling of sesame seeds (ok I had an accident at one end of the first celery stick – top tip – don’t pour straight from the bag), and also plonked some of my sprouted chick peas on one to make me feel even more healthy.  And voila!  Quick, delicious and pretty darned healthy.. as Jack may say, yeeee hawwwww!

Until tomorrow.. byeeee :D x

30 RawRRR Recipes – 01 – No more sambuca! Green Smoothy Saint

Oi Oi! Yes I’m back after a hiatus which has seen me abuse my body back up to 10stone 5.5lbs… I guess I should get on the scales in my bikini to prove it but it’s just so damn cold I don’t want to *stamps her feet* … maybe tomorrow

So I woke up this morning and hauled my fat arse round the streets of Shoreham for 20 minutes – nice and early so it was still pitch black and no-one could stop and stare and laugh and I felt well chuffed with myself!

To celebrate I decided to start my new 30 day challenge which basically involves me having to create or make a raw food recipe every day for 30 days, so if you have a favourite you’d like to see me having a crack at, please leave it in the comments on the blog.

In this video I’ve made a delicious raw green smoothie which I may make again for my lunch, it was THAT good.

I’m going to take each day as it comes and my motto is going to be….”Just for today, I..” fiill in the blank as you please. Basically this is an exercise taken from Reiki teachings (I have actually achieved Reiki Master/Teacher but tragically, not taught yet.. and been incredibly slack on using it to help others for far too long). The Reiki philosophy is:

“Just for today, I will not be angry.”
“Just for today, I will not worry.”
“Just for today, I will do my work honestly.”
“Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.”
“Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.”

I like this as it focuses me more on the here and now, which is what I can take action on. So, this morning I also decided:
Just for today I will exercise for 30 minutes or more, drink 2 litres of water, eat consciously, make a video, meditate, smile. What will you do, just for today?

30 Days to RawRRR! Day 30 – OMG I actually did it :D

Wooo HOOOOooooOOOooo

I’ve actually video blogged every day for 30 days! How fricking awesome is THAT!  I hope you’ve enjoyed some of them and thanks to everyone who has appeared in them with me and for all the support I’ve received as I without the help and encouragement from the awesome team of people around me – virtually and in reality – I don’t think I’d have made it. So big hugs and kisses to you – you know who you are xxx

I do intend to continue with my video blogging but I will be interspersing it with other types of blog entries too while I concentrate on my next 30 day challenge… well it worked so well for me once, I think I should repeat the experience!

In this video I reflect back a little and think about what to do next as well as what I’ve got lined up this weekend.  I’ve tagged some random photos on the end too for you to hopefully enjoy.  Any feedback or suggestions – please leave me a comment.  Byeeee for now xxx

How to clean out your ears so you can hear again!

I frequently get blocked up ears and although putting olive oil in can help sometimes (it softens up the wax), it just doesn’t cut it most of the time for me.   Maybe it’s because I have such small ear canals or something.. I don’t know but I’ve been plagued with the problem all my life.  (Maybe it’s just because I don’t want to hear my daughter moaning at me).

Anyway, to get your ears syringed in the UK is a huge ordeal and my local doctor’s surgery make me wait for aaaages before they’ll do it.

Luckily, I now have the secret to clearing my ears of wax!

Thank you to my lovely American friend Susie (who you’ve seen me doing errm yoga with), she is also a nurse and as soon as she saw my plight on my videos, sent me a video herself via her Blackberry with the secret..  so I popped down to the chemist for the magic ingredients, wrapped a towel around myself (should have tied my hair back too duh) and gave it a go this morning… and it’s worked!!!  It did take a while to do as my ears were so gummed up and I was doing it on myself.

My top tips are:  rope someone in to help you, tie your hair back (unless you’re bald), have more than one towel handy, use the syringe in a steady motion and not too forcefully, use warm water, STOP if you experience any pain and consult a qualified health expert and if you like to inspect your gunk, maybe hold a beaker or something under your ear.  And yes! it was disgusting what came out but I found that strangely satisfying.

Please note that I am not a medical expert and if you choose to try this yourself it is your own decision and at your own risk.  Always consult your doctor if you are unsure and take professional medical advice.  Here endeth the sermon.  Now, on with the video!

RawRRR! Curly Kale Salad

Inspired by a recipe of Karen Knowler’s, I decided to whip up my own version of a delicious curly kale salad. In this video I’ll show you how to prepare the curly kale so it’s edible before I disappear and eat it for my lunch.. mmm :P   (omg this has taken me ages to get on YouTube and TWO frickin’ attempts *lol*)

RawRRR! Morning Juice

Morning, morning… in response to a request to see more of what I’m eating and drinking, I decided to video me making my juice this morning.

Luckily for you I had to edit it down from 14 minutes to under 10 for YouTube *grin*.. seriously I am amazed that as soon as I turn that camera on I don’t stop talking!  Anyway, I made the juice.. as you will see and I share some VERY personal insights (wish I was a fly on the wall when Nicola watches this muhahaha).  I had to chop a bit off the end so you don’t see what I think of the juice… it was nice but I would NOT recommend it for people just starting to make juices.  Was slightly bitter and the cabbage makes it a bit peppery.. if you are going to do it, I would suggest you add a couple of apples to it to sweeten it up more.

Next time, I will do something less…. green *grin*
